This Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, at 7 p.m., Madrona Grace Presbyterian Church will host a Reader’s Theatre production of JAZZ WITH BIRD, written and performed by Paul Nichols and featuring Lonnie Williams & Then and Now. The play encapsulates in part the brilliant and too short lifespan of the artist who was Charlie Parker. His story is told in his own words and music as well as those of his peers, fans and critics, given voice by the dual character Grey/Birdspirit (Paul Nichols) and our featured musicians.

The poetry you will hear both days (first half on Friday, second half on Saturday) are Paul’s untouched words that his mentor Lloyd Richards analyzed some 40-50 years ago. At the suggestion of his wife, Pamela, Paul is just now rendering it in stand-alone, play format. We trust that, over the next two days, you will enjoy it!
